Mornings in Kampot start slowly. We chose to take our time for breakfast, an essential moment to kick off the day. In the historic centre, several cafés offer local specialties. We opted for a Khmer breakfast, delicious and hearty, which gave us the energy we needed for the day ahead.
Walking in the Centre of Kampot
After breakfast, we decided to explore the centre of Kampot by bike. The old shopping streets, lined with historic buildings, provide a fascinating glimpse into the city’s past. We strolled around the market, where the colours and scents of fresh produce amazed us. The locals are welcoming, and we took the time to chat with a few vendors.
Our walk led us to the salt marshes, a unique place where you can observe the salt harvesting process. It’s a fascinating sight, and we took a few photos to capture the moment.
Spending the Afternoon by the River
In the afternoon, we chose to relax by the river. February can be quite hot, so we found a café with stunning views of the water. We sipped refreshing drinks while admiring the scenery. For the more adventurous, kayaking is an interesting option, with prices ranging from 5 to 15 USD depending on the duration and provider.
Sunset and Evening
At the end of the day, we witnessed a beautiful sunset. We had the choice between a river cruise or simply enjoying a terrace by the water. Boat trips cost between 5 and 15 USD, depending on the package chosen. We opted for the tranquillity of the terrace, savouring a Khmer dinner while watching the sun dip behind the hills.

For a day in Kampot, the daily budget is reasonable, ranging from 25 to 45 USD per person, excluding accommodation. This amount includes breakfast, lunch, activities, and a few drinks. It’s excellent value for such a rewarding experience.

Kampot is perfect for an extended stay. Interesting places are sometimes far apart, making exploration more enjoyable over several days. Additionally, the town offers a relaxing atmosphere, ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities. By taking the time to enjoy each moment, we discovered that Kampot was much more than just a stop on our itinerary.
