Why discover Battambang by bike

Battambang, with its lush landscapes and deep-rooted traditions, is an ideal destination for cycling exploration. Pedalling through the countryside allows you to immerse yourself in local life and appreciate the beauty of the rice fields stretching as far as the eye can see. It's an authentic way to discover the cultural and natural riches of the region.

Setting off from the city

We began our adventure early in the morning, around 7:30 am, to enjoy the coolness of the dry season in February. Renting a bike in central Battambang is straightforward, with prices ranging from 5 to 8 USD for the day. After picking up our city bikes, we were ready to set off on a loop of about 25 to 30 km.

The stages of our journey

Our route took us along the banks of the Sangker River, on small rural roads. We passed through several picturesque villages, where locals were busy with their daily activities. The vibrant green rice fields were everywhere, offering breathtaking views.

Encounters and skills observed

Along our route, we were fortunate to visit a family workshop specialising in rice paper production. The artisans, passionate about their craft, explained to us the various stages of production. These encounters truly enriched our experience, allowing us to understand the local know-how.

Challenges faced

The heat began to set in after 11 am, making pedalling more challenging. Additionally, some roads were dusty, and the traffic leaving the city could be a bit chaotic. These elements added a challenge to our adventure, but they are also part of the charm of discovery.

Our tips for recreating this outing

To fully enjoy this experience, here are a few tips: set off early in the morning to avoid the heat, download an offline map to navigate without worry, and remember to bring at least 1.5 litres of water to stay hydrated. Also, ensure your phone is charged, as it could be useful in case of need.
