Bong Bonlai

Bong Bonlai is a fully vegan restaurant at 13A Street 830, between Street 21 and Sothearos Boulevard, in Tonle Bassac. It sits inside YK Art House. The name joins “bong”, the Khmer form of address, and “bonlai”, vegetable.

The plate

The whole menu is vegan. The dishes they keep on the card are tempeh skewers, The Incredible Burger and a tofu amok. Bread, cupcakes, cashew cheesecake and ice cream are made in house. To drink: Demeter teas, cashew-milk smoothies, cold-pressed juices, coffee from Three Corner Coffee, Cambodian craft beer and wine. They price the regular menu between $3 and $10. A second menu of ten dishes changes every week and leaves only as a pre-order for delivery.

The garden

The dining room is a library of a little over 2,000 books. Outside, a garden with a mango tree and a rotating art show. Wifi is available. Families and pets are welcome: the courtyard opens onto the street and includes a pool, so children need supervision. One large table seats up to 12. Each table has a bell, so you can call without raising your voice. Reservations are by message.
