Artisans Angkor — Chantiers-Écoles
The heart of Artisans Angkor in Siem Reap: an open-air craft campus, free daily guided tours and a flagship boutique two minutes from the Old Market.
Founded in 1992, Artisans Angkor is a Cambodian social enterprise that revitalises Khmer craft industries and trains rural youths. After post-pandemic restructuring, the historic Chantiers-Écoles site in downtown Siem Reap has become a vibrant "Living Museum" ecosystem, now expanding as the Living Art Village.
Key visitor experiences
Living Art Village (main workshop) : an open-air campus where master craftsmen practice centuries-old techniques. Free daily guided tours walk through specialised pavilions for stone carving, wood sculpting, lacquering and silver plating.
Flagship boutique : premium certified handmade goods — silk, jewellery, lacquer, sculptures — with sales funding rural training programmes.
Angkor Silk Farm (Puok District) : the full Khmer silk lifecycle (silkworms, mulberry, hol ikat weaving). Free shuttle from the main hub.
Immersive Angkor (upcoming) : a landmark 360° 3D multimedia experience within the Living Art Village reconstructing ancient Angkorian temple grandeur.
Capital boutique: Artisans Angkor — Phnom Penh. Hours : daily 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM. Free entry and standard guided tours.
Between the Old Market and the Chantiers-Écoles, you watch a stone carver at work and end in the boutique — it's the best lesson in Khmer culture, and every purchase actually means something.
