Apsara Theatre
The oldest performance venue in Siem Reap (since 1997) offers a Khmer dinner and classical & folk dances in a semi-colonial wooden pavilion — Wat Bo area.
Apsara Theatre is Siem Reap's oldest performance venue, established in 1997 to preserve Khmer performing arts. Located on Rue 26 in the Wat Bo area (opposite Angkor Village Hotel), this semi-colonial wooden pavilion is a premium spot for a traditional dinner show: live orchestra, singers, and classical & folk dances.
The Cultural Experience
Court Dances: over 30 artists — Apsara ballet with hyper-flexible hand gestures once reserved for the Angkor court. Epic & Folklore: legends from the Reamker (Khmer Ramayana) and village dances (e.g., fishermen's dance). Live pinpeat orchestra on ancient instruments.
Dinner & Venue
Khmer menu with multiple courses (classic, tapas, vegetarian from ~34 USD on-site). Wooden low tables, floor cushions, and nooks under tables for leg stretching; restaurant seating upstairs. Air-conditioned — a nice alternative to outdoor cultural buffets.
Reservation & Schedule
Dinner at 19:30, show 20:30 – 21:30 (3 classical dances, 2 folk dances). Package 34–45 USD (meal + show). Reservation required — small venue, intimate atmosphere. Book at apsaratheatre.asia; tuk-tuk transfers sometimes included. Check performance days by season.
In the air-conditioned hall, surrounded by the aroma of saraman and the graceful Apsara hand movements reminiscent of Angkor, this Wat Bo theatre remains our favourite for a cultural evening away from the mass spectacle of large hotels.
