Smateria — Phnom Penh
BKK1 flagship of Cambodia's acclaimed WFTO-certified eco-fashion brand — Italian design, bags and accessories upcycled by Khmer artisans since 2006.
Smateria is an Italian-designed, Cambodian-made social enterprise founded in 2006 by Elisa Lion and Jennifer Morellato. The name means transforming materials and giving them new life — globally celebrated for recycled, upcycled bags and lifestyle accessories with an urban, color-blocked aesthetic.
Collections. NET: repurposed fishing nets (totes, clutches, cosmetics cases). IKI: custom vegan fabric from recycled plastic bags. Tech sleeves, passport pouches, and rugged travel backpacks.
Ethical factory. WFTO-certified micro-factory in Phnom Penh — ~75% women artisans, fair wages, double maternity leave, healthcare, and a free on-site preschool and after-school care. Products handmade in-house from start to finish.
