Al-Serkal Mosque
The Al-Serkal Mosque (Masjid Al-Serkal) is the largest mosque in Phnom Penh and a major landmark for the Cham Muslim community.
The Al-Serkal Mosque is an iconic religious monument in Phnom Penh. Funded by the Al-Serkal family from the United Arab Emirates, it was inaugurated in 2014 to replace an older mosque built in 1968.
Its modern Ottoman architecture is immediately recognisable: two imposing minarets, a large white and blue dome, and a vast, bright interior adorned with geometric patterns. The mosque can accommodate over 3,000 worshippers.
Located in the Boeung Kak area (Daun Penh district), the mosque is primarily an active place of worship. Non-Muslim visitors can generally admire it from the outside. To enter, permission must be requested, shoes removed, and modest attire adhered to (shoulders and legs covered, headscarf for women).
It is especially busy during the five daily prayers, with peak attendance at midday on Fridays. Nearby, you will find several halal restaurants offering Cambodian and Malaysian specialities.
The Al-Serkal Mosque stands out with its two imposing minarets and large white and blue dome, a modern Ottoman architecture that captures the eye in the Boeung Kak area. It serves as a vibrant spiritual hub where the Cham Muslim community gathers for the five daily prayers, particularly bustling on Friday afternoons.
