Connectivity in Cambodia is a pleasant surprise for many travelers. Contrary to what one might imagine of a developing country, 4G coverage is better than in some rural areas of Europe. The prices for plans are among the lowest in Southeast Asia.

Decent network in the city
Our recommendation: Smart Axiata
For a standard tourist stay (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, coast), Smart is the most suitable operator. Its 4G network is the fastest and most reliable in tourist areas, including the temples of Angkor and on the islands. Typical plan: 8-10 USD for 30 days of unlimited data (speed reduced after 30-50 GB depending on the plan).
Metfone is preferable if you plan to visit truly remote areas (Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, border areas) — its national coverage is superior to Smart outside the cities.

Where to buy a SIM
At the airport — Smart, Metfone, and CooTel counters are available at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports. Slightly more expensive by 1-2 USD than in the city, but convenient for immediate connectivity (Grab works right outside). In the city — official operator shops and convenience stores in all cities. Bring your passport for registration (mandatory since 2022).
The alternative: eSIM Airalo
If your phone is eSIM compatible (iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, and most recent flagship models), you can activate a Cambodian plan from home before you leave — and be connected as soon as the plane lands, without searching for a phone shop.
Airalo offers eSIM plans for Cambodia starting at 5 USD for 1 GB up to 13-18 USD for more generous data plans. Less competitive in price than a local SIM purchased on-site, but very convenient for short stays or for travelers passing through multiple countries.
Activate your eSIM from France before you leave. Automatic connection upon landing, no queue at the airport.

WiFi is available and generally fast in almost all hotels, hostels, cafes, and restaurants in major cities. In Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, even small guesthouses offer decent WiFi. On the islands (Koh Rong, Koh Rong Sanloem), connectivity is more variable depending on the establishment.
