Amboh Espadrille

An iconic brand of artisanal shoes in Phnom Penh, Amboh Espadrille has fused French espadrilles with Khmer textiles.

Amboh Espadrille is an emblematic brand in Phnom Penh, known for its artisanal approach that blends French espadrille craftsmanship with Cambodian textiles, notably the traditional krama. Founded by Lille native Sébastien Gertgen, the company championed a social model focused on ethical working conditions for local artisans.

After 10 years of operation, the physical store closed permanently on 27 February 2026. However, the last pairs are still available in Phnom Penh through Shack Collective, as well as online via the official Facebook page with Grab delivery.

The models are handmade with natural jute soles and cotton uppers, often featuring woven krama (especially from Takeo), making each pair unique. In addition to shoes, the brand also offered accessories (canvas bags, aprons).

Liquidation prices observed: around 15 to 25 USD per pair. Sizing advice: choose slightly snug at first, as the fabric stretches after a few days of wear.

Amboh Espadrille perfectly marries French craftsmanship with Cambodian krama, creating handmade espadrilles that exude authenticity. Each pair tells a story, and I love the idea that the fabric relaxes over time, making every step even more comfortable.
